Flute, Recorder, Piano, Keyboard.

 

I offer lessons to students from age 5 in  recorder, piano, and keyboard and flute from around age 8.  My teaching approach is tailored to each student’s needs and interests, incorporating a variety of musical styles. Lessons follow a step-by-step progression using tutor books, pieces of your choice, and my guidance. Students can play their favorite tunes for fun, and there are also opportunities to prepare for practical examinations.

 

Learning Materials

I recommend using technique books that introduce musical concepts in a structured, step-by-step manner, alongside one or two books of pieces that you enjoy. There are many styles and genres to choose from, including Disney, movie soundtracks, pop, jazz, classical, and Christmas music. If you prefer online shopping, you’ll find a wide variety of books Here. Local music stores also carry selections, though with a more limited range.

 

Lesson Formats

Lessons are available:

   In-person – in Rolleston or at select Canterbury schools

   Online – via Zoom at a time that suits you

 

Getting Started

Before beginning lessons, I encourage us to connect—either in person, via Zoom, phone, email, or text—to discuss:

• Goals: What would you or your child like to achieve?
• Experience: Are you a beginner, self-taught, or have you taken lessons before?
• Musical Needs: Do you have an instrument and sheet music? Would you like to play by ear or learn to read music?
