My musical background involves playing a number of musical instruments including flute, recorder, piano, keyboards, alto saxophone and a little ukulele. I provide a service as a Flute, Recorder, Keyboard, Piano Teacher and an opportunity to purchase musical products associated with learning an instrument such as the instrument, sheet music, relevant accessories and more through online shopping.
I have been teaching privately or in small groups in Canterbury at schools and my own home for over 28 years. This provided an opportunity for me to earn an income whilst bringing up my children and working hours to suit me and my students. My children have left home but I still enjoy the flexibility music teaching provides

1. My Musical Background in RECORDER
I started my musical career on wooden recorders of varying sizes. My father had a mini consort of recorders which included a sopranino, several descants and a treble recorder, all made of wood. He taught me how to play, starting with the descant recorders.
My father had a variety of simple music which we would play in parts with other members of the family, especially on holidays. I was always in charge of putting the recorders in the car at holiday time!!
I later took group lessons. And now I teach it.
2. My Musical Background in PIANO
3. My Musical Background in FLUTE
Why I took up the flute
I wanted to play in an orchestra and so I learnt another instrument than the piano. This took over from the recorder lessons I was having. As my sister was learning the clarinet I wanted to try a different instrument. After a two term attempt at trying to master the oboe I chose to learn the popular flute. I had group lessons and then private lessons. I got my wish of playing in an orchestra and a variety of other groups over the years. This included varied sized chamber groups of different instruments, musical theatre orchestras, full orchestra, flute choir and a big band.
Where I Currently Play
Currently I play flute in three regular groups.
One group is The Mainland Big Band, a dance band which plays at Working Men’s Clubs and other celebrations like anniversaries, weddings and large corporate dinner-dances.
Another group is The Risingholme Orchestra, a local amateur orchestra which meets weekly. The orchestra performs annually at 2 concerts for the public and 2 concerts for retirement home people.
The last group is a wind quintet which comprises of 1 flute, 1 oboe, 1 clarinet, 1 basson, 1 french horn.
I did play in a flute choir for many years until it stopped. I also enjoy getting involved with other musical groups as the opportunity arises.
Teaching Flute
After learning for a while I decided that I would like to earn some money at home teaching the flute whilst bringing up a family. So I sat the required examinations to gain the qualification. And then began it.
4. My Musical Background in KEYBOARD
I am teaching recorder, flute and piano through a school of music. The opportunity came up for the need of a keyboard teacher in my area. So I bought myself a keyboard, taught myself with the help of the music shop and other musicians and then started teaching it.
5. Other Instruments
I took lessons in alto saxphone and have played it in a small dixie group, orchestra and privately at home.
I can play a little ukulele by teaching myself.
Other instruments include the tin whistle and ocarina.
All of the above instruments I have had requests to teach them and so I have.
Currently I am teaching myself the clarinet.
My Qualifications
These include grade 6 classical piano and grade 4 modern piano, grade 5 modern keyboard, L.T.C.L in flute, grade 6 theory and The Secondary Graduate Diploma of Teaching and Learning.
